The Horse Sense Blog compares the nonsense in today's news with good ol' fashioned horse sense

“…I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve.… It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.” - Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775

"The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it." - George Orwell

The Last Independence Day Celebration

Here’s the Nonsense:  America is about to celebrate another 4th of July Independence Day.  It will be a wonderful celebration and our strong nation will celebrate hundreds more in the future.

Here’s the Horse Sense:  We have just seen actions taken that assure us of the imminent collapse of our nation if we do not stop the madness now and begin the turnaround to save our nation.  This may be our last Independence Day celebration in America as we know it.

July 4, 2012 may be the last Independence Day celebration in America.  Oh sure, there may still be concerts, picnics, and parades in future years, but celebration of what America stands for may very well be over.  This past week the Supreme Court of the United States ruled on the Affordable Health Care law (excuse me while I choke on the word “affordable”) which is also known as Obamacare.  This decision will go down in history as a travesty just like the Dred Scott decision and other awful mistakes the court has made over the years.  This will go down as the decision that ripped freedom from the hands of the American people and sold our future to a limited few who will inflict the worst kind of tyranny imaginable upon the American people.

In my new book, No Tomorrows: How To Halt America’s Imminent Collapse And Return To The American Dream – And Why It Must Start With The 2012 Elections, I identify the 3 core problems our nation faces.  One of those is our nation’s debt and another one is our lack of ability as citizens to choose true leaders.  Obamacare will increase our debt beyond anything ever dreamed of and the lack of leadership we have in Washington is leading us down a path to certain destruction.  Our imminent collapse is at hand and Obamacare speeds up that process.

The healthcare law places upon the American people a healthcare system that will cost more than double what the president told us it would when he sold it to the public.  It includes far more expansive powers of the IRS as they will be enforcing the law with 16,000 more agents with which to do this than they have had in the past.  You will no longer make your own healthcare decisions with your doctor.  Decisions about healthcare will be made by bureaucrats assigned to your case.  Implementing things like this are not the actions of true leaders.  They are the actions of people so narcissistic and drunk on their own power that they will stop at nothing to have everything their way.

There are all sorts of criticisms of our current healthcare system, and some are legitimate concerns.  However, people defending Obamacare are now heard to say such things as, “Even if it’s got problems, change is better than doing nothing.”  Actually that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Change does not always mean good things will happen.  Change can make things worse, and that is exactly what Obamacare does.

Some people are saying that insurance companies have been restrictive in what they would allow people to have in medical care.  But the fact is that no insurance company has ever said that someone could not have any type of care.  Rather, what they’ve said is that they would not pay for certain types of care because it was not covered under the health plan insuring the person.  The individual was always free to seek out and pay for care that they wanted but may not be covered under their insurance.  Under Obamacare the government will be able to go further and, like many other countries, will be able to keep you from seeking care outside of Obamacare, even if you are willing to pay for it yourself.  The list goes on and on of the things this law will do to take away freedom from Americans.  We haven’t begun to see what the future holds because of this bill.  The details hidden within the bill have yet to all be unveiled to the public.

What we do know is that the government will have to control costs and the only way they have to do that is by rationing care.  That means that for healthy people it won’t matter much.  But for people with health problems it will be just like Canada, England, and other countries with nationalized healthcare programs.  Under those programs someone with even moderate healthcare needs, such as getting a CATSCAN or MRI or appointment with a specialist has to wait months for the appointment.  People with a need for certain medications will be denied those medications due to cost.  If you are older you will get less care (And older will ultimately probably be determined to be anyone around 50 and up).  As President Obama made clear when he sold Obamacare to the nation, regardless of a person’s will to live, overall health history, or anything else, once people reach their later years we will have to choose just to give them palliative care to keep them comfortable and make no efforts for other services because of their age.

So, if your 70 year old grandmother who’s always been the picture of energy and health falls and breaks her hip so badly that she needs a hip replacement, too bad, she’s probably just going to be told to live with it and take an aspirin.  Or if she has a heart attack and needs heart surgery she’s probably not going to get it, she’ll just be kept comfortable with some mild pain relievers.  If it shortens her life that’s too bad, but she just costs too much for Obamacare to consider spending the money on her.

You can add to these other things like the 21 new taxes that Obamacare brings to the American people.  And 75% of the cost will be paid for by Americans making UNDER $120,000 a year.  How’s that for the president’s campaign pledge that there would be no new taxes on the middle class?

This law is just another way our freedoms are being eroded.  We still have one last chance to stop it.  We do have the elections in November.  We can change Congress and who sits in the White House as our president.  If we miss this chance, there won’t be another one.  We need to start to get people in elected office who are true leaders.  We certainly have a lack of them today.  And only true leaders can turn this country around. In No Tomorrows I show how to find those true leaders we need to save this nation.

The people running our government will turn this into the worst kind of tyranny there is.  That is because these people are progressives and they believe that they know what is best for you.  They know better than you do how you should live your life and raise your children.  And because they believe this they bring these things upon us believing they are doing what’s best for us.  People like that tyrannize others by forcing their ideas upon them and aren’t even open to the idea that they might be wrong in their views.

More than 60 years ago C. S. Lewis wrote, “Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Americans are about to lose their independence and we have one last chance to stop it.  This election day will be the most important in American history.  If 2010 shook up Washington, then 2012 needs to send the message that American government is to be of the people, by the people, and for the people and the American public won’t accept anything less.  It’s time for politicians to know who they work for.  Our second president John Adams said, “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”
