The Horse Sense Blog compares the nonsense in today's news with good ol' fashioned horse sense

“…I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve.… It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.” - Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775

"The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it." - George Orwell

Reagan Era: The Future's So Bright You Have To Wear Shades ………..………..…………..……… Obama Era: The Future's Darker Than A Black Hole

Here's the Nonsense:  No matter how bad things seem, America can always look forward to a bright future.

Here's the Horse Sense:  The future for America is bleak as it stands right now.  The signs are everywhere and it's time for Americans to take a stand or, as President Reagan said, "…step into a thousand years of darkness."

Everyone's writing and talking about the fight between the House and Senate to avoid a government shutdown.  Everywhere you turn it's a blow by blow account of what each side is doing, but the biggest issue is being missed.  The real issue is that we are facing is Ronald Reagan's clarion call when he said, “You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness."  It's that simple and that serious.  Sure, government funding is important.  Healthcare is important.  And all the other stuff is important.  But they are only symptoms of the big problem America faces and must overcome to survive.

We have a political party, the Democrats, that have built their entire platform on lies, and yet they control our government.  They tell us how wonderful Obamacare is and yet every indicator is that it's a disaster with terrible things to come.  Care will be far less and of lower quality than we are used to.  Cost will be higher than we can imagine.  Over 30 million people will still be left without coverage.  And contrary to what people think, there is no guarantee to those who have it that they will get care.  The president and Democrats tell you that you will get healthcare, but the fact is that if you do get it, you will only get a poor excuse for health insurance.  Just because you have insurance doesn't mean you'll get care.  There's a big difference.

The number one question at the website is how to get an exemption from Obamacare.  Polls show the majority of Americans don't want it.  From what I've seen the lowest was 52% of Americans who don't want it to as high as 70% don't want it.  (Elections have been won with lower numbers than 52%!)  The American people have signed petitions, burned up the phone lines to Congress, and filled their mailboxes with letters and yet Congress still ignores the will of the American people to stop this law.

The Democrats, backed up by the media, try to stop criticism of the law by saying that it's the law of the land and shouldn't be touched.  Gee, last time I checked the founders of our nation set it up so that changes could be made when mistakes were made.  Slavery was terrible and we changed the laws.  Blacks didn't have rights, but we changed the laws.  Women didn't have rights, but we changed the laws.  I started to make a list of bad laws but stopped because it was pointless.  The important point is that we can, and do, change laws when we face how terrible they are.  The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is a terrible law and the people know it.  Those who represent us should listen and change the mistake they made.

When Ronald Reagan was in office the country prospered.  Things were so good in the 1980s that a popular phrase came into fashion.  People used to say, "The future's so bright, you have to wear shades."  Things were very optimistic and our nation and our people prospered.

Under Barack Obama things are bad and getting worse.  Frankly, I think the future is darker than a black hole.  Obamacare is going to tax us into oblivion.  Jobs are being killed.  The economy is terrible.  Companies are failing.  Our political leaders lie to us on a daily basis.  There is no accountability to the American citizens.  A two-class system has been created where one class is the ruling class of the politicians and the other, lower class, is the citizens.  Our debt is out of control.  There's over $120 trillion in unfunded liabilities plus $16.7 trillion in debt.  If you sold everything in the country and the land, too, the total value of America is only $94 trillion.  Our children and grandchildren face a bleak future.

This nation is being run by the government we deserve because we allowed these people to get into power and stay there. Now it's time for us to wake up and take America back.

The conservative movement in America has made inroads because it represents the will of the American people.  The progressives in control of the Democrat party and the establishment GOP would like to stomp the life out of the conservative movement.  They fear it more than anything.  The 2014 elections are right around the corner and this is our opportunity to take control of our country by electing new people to congress.  We saw which senators are listening to the people when so few supported Ted Cruz's efforts.  That should be the litmus test for reelection of these people.  Those who supported Cruz were supporting the will of the American people.  If we don't replace them now, Ronald Reagan's conclusion in his clarion call will come true.

Defunding Obamacare More Important Than Who Becomes Next President

Here's the Nonsense:  It's no big deal if Obamacare gets funded and implemented.  It's far more important right now for us to work on who will be the next president.

Here's the Horse Sense:  The fight to defund Obamacare may be the single most important battle fought in our lifetimes.  No matter how important people think the next presidential election may be, it pales in comparison to the impact of Obamacare if we don't stop it.

The fight to defund Obamacare is critical for America's future.  Former Senator Jim DeMint was interviewed by Lou Dobbs this weekend and said that the defunding of Obamacare is more important than who wins the next election.  MORE IMPORTANT!  That's how much damage that Obamacare will do to America.  What he's saying is that we'd be better off with another Democrat as president than to have Obamacare be funded and move forward.  Yet even with that level of importance, both the Democrats and the GOP establishment are still fighting to keep it funded and allow it to devastate America.

When the House voted last week to pass the Continuing Resolution to fund the government, but to defund Obamacare, President Obama practically went berserk.  The Washington Post reported how angry he was.  He showed great anger and immaturity when saying the GOP was trying to mess with him.  His reaction to the idea that someone would challenge his signature law, the [UN]Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare), makes me think his messiah complex was going to melt down.

As usual, Democrats lined up to back him and attack the GOP, but that's nothing new.  They always do that and don't mind using any means necessary, including deception, to achieve their goals.  But the real issue that voters should be watching is the attacks on Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, who have spearheaded the efforts in the Senate and with Americans to defund this monstrosity of a law.  The attacks of the establishment GOP on those Republicans who want to get rid of Obamacare are far worse than anything the Democrats are putting forth right now.  And this should be noted by voters so that they can hold them accountable in the 2014 mid-term elections.

On Sunday morning Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday, was a guest on Washington, D.C.'s Fox 5 prior to his own show for the Fox News Channel.  On that show, referring to Senator Ted Cruz, he said, "I will tell you I have never in my time in Washington seen a party so upset with one of its own members."  Yes, the Democrats are certainly using their usual deceptions to try to color the story for Americans, but then again, that's right out of the Saul Alinsky playbook that they've been using for some time so we shouldn't be surprised.  But the real news is that the GOP establishment doesn't like it that some politicians in their midst, such politicians as Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, are actually listening to the American public and pushing for defunding of Obamacare.  Obama claiming the GOP is trying to mess with him is just his ego screaming that he's offended that someone would dare question him.  But those standing for the majority of Americans are the ones who are truly being messed with by everyone in D. C. who doesn't agree with them.

Until just days ago there was no plan for the House GOP leadership to support defunding of Obamacare.  Under the guise of wanting to avoid a government shutdown (more on the stupidity of that view in a minute), House leaders John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Kevin McCarthy were standing strong to stop House members who agreed with Cruz and Lee that the American public should be listened to and every effort should be made to stop Obamacare by defunding it.  But public pressure in the form of over 1.6 million Americans signing Lee's petition to stop Obamacare and thousands of calls to congressional offices caused GOP leadership to rethink their position.  With elections coming up next year the politicians are concerned that the voters might remember if they don't listen to them.  The result was the GOP leadership backing down and conservatives getting a united effort in the House which passed a bill to continue funding the government but to also leave out all funding for Obamacare.  This makes the entire battle about Obamacare and nothing else.

But Fox News was playing the Washington game and reported that "anonymous sources" are telling them how the GOP leadership are against trying to defund the law and making attacks on Cruz.  Thankfully Sarah "Mama Grizzly" Palin spoke up and tweeted to Fox News Sunday, "Keep it TRULY fair and balanced.  Release the GOP names encouraging you to trash @SenTedCruz.  No more anonymous sources."  That's the kind of reporting that Americans need.  Reporting that gives us true facts and information so that we, the citizens, have the information we need as we head towards the next elections.

UPDATE:  Breitbart is reporting that a senior staff member in the Senate has said of Minority Senate Leader Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator John Cornyn, “To be clear, nobody is fighting harder to make sure Obamacare is funded than Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn.”  The establishment GOP will do everything they can to make sure the will of the American people is not supported.

The GOP establishment fears a government shutdown.  They are afraid that it will hurt them in the next elections.  The Democrats play on that and President Obama along with Democrat leaders continually try to paint a picture that the GOP wants to shut down the government.  They do this not so much to scare the public, but to intimidate the GOP.  And the GOP leadership are so spineless that they are easily intimidated and end up falling for it.

Let's get some information straight about a government shutdown.  We continually hear that the shutdown that occurred in 1995 was damaging to the GOP.  And they cite the resignation of then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich as proof.  But that's not an accurate portrayal of what happened.  The facts tell us quite a different story.

In 1995 the government was shut down but the result was that the GOP held their control of the House in the 1996 elections.  Yes, Newt Gingrich did resign, but he was under such pressure from attacks by the Democrats and the media because of the successes he'd had with the House that they were going to find a way to get rid of him no matter what.  It was not directly due to the government shutdown.  The reality of the situation is that the American public saw the Republicans take a stand and supported it.  The shutdown did not affect a large portion of the government then and it wouldn't now.

In 1995 18% of government employees were furloughed, while 82% were not.  All essential services continued, as they would under a current shutdown.  Social Security checks were sent then and would still be sent now.  Medicare would function, the military would function to defend our nation, any and every thing that is considered essential would continue.  This is just a scare tactic that the Democrats have learned to use effectively against the weasels in the GOP establishment.  In fact, federal law requires them to keep essential services running and it was confirmed by the Department of Justice in 2011.  For a very complete description of what would happen you should read a great article that the Heritage Foundation has put out on the subject.  Click here to read it.

The powerful people in Washington, in both parties, don't want to see Obamacare go away.  It gives them huge control over the American people.  They want less freedom for Americans and more control for themselves.  It's time Americans see through this kind of nonsense and demand accountability.  Accountability comes at the voting booth.  It's time to take note of what your senators and representatives have been doing to support your freedoms and, if they haven't been what they need to be, it's time to find others to replace them.

As Jim DeMint said, what happens with Obamacare is more important than who wins the next election.  Think about that.  Then do something about it.

Is It Time To Divide America?

Here's the Nonsense:  There is a lot of conflict and division in America.  But we will overcome that division and move forward.

Here's the Horse Sense:  Sometimes division and conflict are so enormous they cannot and will not be overcome.  Sometimes we must make sacrifices to survive.  It's time we seriously consider the sacrifice of dividing our country to save it.

Anyone who is honest with themselves admits that America is not the unified nation we once were.  Sure, we've had differences over the centuries, but never like we do today.  The conflict brought on by the extreme actions and plans of the progressives has caused a split in our nation that probably cannot be healed.  The way to save the nation may simply be to divide it and go our separate ways.

The idea of separating from those with whom we cannot agree or come to an acceptable compromise is not new.  Throughout history nations have been formed over such things.  In fact, the United States became a nation after going through such a situation.  The Founders of our nation pledged everything they had, even their lives, to becoming independent of Great Britain, the nation of which they were a part.  They understood that to take on such a battle meant that if they were not successful they would lose everything, even their lives.  George Washington, considered by many historians to be one of the wealthiest men in the 13 colonies (some even believe he was the wealthiest) could have remained in a very comfortable lifestyle had the Revolution never occurred, but he understood that without freedom it wasn't a life worth living, so he was willing to risk everything to try to lead our nation to victory.

Today we see reports of some areas of the U. S. feeling fed up.  Some states are hearing petitions from their citizens for portions of those states to break off and form new states.  Conservative majority counties in areas like northern California, northern Colorado,  Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and now western Maryland are all talking secession from their respective states because they can no longer accept the extreme policies and actions of their otherwise progressive state governments.  And, it's not limited to just conservative areas.  Liberals in South Florida and western Arizona are also interested in seceding from their states, which they feel are too conservative.  The divide is huge and cannot easily be overcome, if at all.

It's no wonder that this is going on.  After years of constant effort and slowly moving their plans forward, progressives have succeeded in dumbing down our citizens.  They've done this by doing such things as rewriting and twisting history, emphasizing fairness over right and wrong, and infiltrating our workplaces and educational institutions with philosophies that have created an uneducated and lazy mindset among the majority of Americans.  Now we have a nation that, for the most part, is made up of not just low information voters, as Rush Limbaugh calls them, but actually I'd argue that they are no information voters.  They do not understand America, its history, how our system of government or economy work, and have no desire and make no effort to learn.  Instead, they would rather spend their time watching their favorite movies, tv shows and sports contests (yes, that includes you die-hard NFL fans - after all, being a football fan does not make you a patriot), and entertaining themselves instead of taking their responsibility to their country and their children's future seriously.  They won't get involved in understanding what's happening in our country and do something about it.  This is why the progressives have been so successful at undermining our nation and we are now nearing complete collapse.

Just using the current administration as an example (and it's just an example because this has been coming for some time, it's not the fault of just this president, as I discussed in a recent post here, even though he is a major contributor to it) there is a lack of integrity shown that cause many, mostly conservatives, to no longer trust our president and our government.

From the beginning this president has been deceptive with the American people.  As Glenn Beck reported, here are 6 lies he told in the beginning:

Lie 1: PRESIDENT OBAMA: The Kennedys decided we’re going to do an airlift. We’re going to go out to Africa and we’re going to start bringing young Africans over to this country and give them scholarships to study so that they can learn what a wonderful country America is. And this young man named Barack Obama got one of those tickets and came over to this country.
Truth: His father came to America at least a year before this program started.
Lie 2: President Obama: There’s some good craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided we know that in the world as it has been, it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child. But something’s stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. And so they got together and Barack Obama, Jr. was born.
Truth: He was born four years before the Selma march.
Lie 3: President Obama: It’s the founding ideals that the flag draped over my father’s coffin stand for.

Truth: His father was buried in Kenya, never served in the U.S. military. Which flag draped his father’s coffin? And what ideals does the flag that draped his father’s coffin in Kenya stand for?
Lie 4: President Obama promised that lobbyists would not be a part of his administration or have the influence in Washington they had previously.
Truth: He broke that promise three days later. CNN reported, “Just this weekend The New York times published a list of names — a rather long list of names of people — who are working on Obama’s transition team or who have accepted jobs in his White House who are either former lobbyists or who have close ties to lobbyists.”
Lie 5: President Obama: “And Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided.”
Truth: Obama later said, “This was an example where we had some poor phrasing in the speech and we immediately tried to correct the interpretation that was given. The point we were simply making was, is that we don’t want barbed wire running through Jerusalem.”
Lie 6: President Obama: I believe in the Constitution and I will obey the Constitution of the United States. We’re not going to use signing statements as a way of doing an end run around congress.
Truth: He’s used signing statements over 20 times.
And as time has gone on we've seen the lies continue. reported some examples including this about Obamacare:
"Consider these three truisms as applied to the passage of Obamacare.  Obama, you may recall, promised that all aspects of the health care debate would be open, transparent, and, in fact, they would broadcast on C-Span.
"But instead of broadcasting the healthcare debate on C-Span, the president strong-armed passage in closed-door meetings, made secret deals with big pharmacy, and railed at those who were holding up immediate passage of the 2700 page bill.  The sky would fall if the bill were not passed at the earliest possible time. That there had been no time to read the bill was not a problem, according to the president's compatriot, Nancy Pelosi.  If you wanted to know what was in the bill, she said, you would find out after it was signed into law.  The rush to pass the bill was hardly conducive to considered decision-making.
"Then, when passage of the bill was in question and Obama needed the votes of a coalition of congressman headed by Bart Stupak, Obama promised Stupak that he would not enforce the bill's requirement for abortion funding.  In fact, Obama signed a pledge to that effect.  In return Stupak and his coalition voted for the bill.  Needless to say, the president's pledge was not honored, although his lie to Stupak and the others was instrumental in getting it passed."
They then go on to mention the lies involved in the Benghazi, Fast and Furious, AP, NSA, and IRS scandals while pointing out that lies seem to be the "modus operandi of the Obama administration." went further on the NSA scandal and reported on 5 deceptions from that disaster.  You can read about that here.

But if all that isn't enough, Charlie Brannan at American Thinker listed 36 lies and deceptions of Obama way back in July of 2011.  You can read his article here.  That was plenty of time for Americans to wake up and do something about it when reelection time came.  But Americans were too busy ignoring the problems in our nation and now we face disaster.

At this point it's apparent that we aren't going to change the minds of those on the left.  And we certainly aren't changing our views.  All those Americans who aren't paying attention are not showing any sign of starting to get educated about where we're headed.  The solution that would not only solve our problems, but would prove the conservative position is the only one that can work, would be to divide our nation.

Yes, I'm talking about a physical division of the land in our country.  Let's split it in two.  I don't care which way you want to draw the line.  North to south, east to west, northwest to southeast, southwest to northeast, none of it matters to me.  Just draw a line and I'll even be nice and let the progressives take whichever half they want.  Then all of us who are conservative will take the half the progressives don't want.  I guarantee that within a short time the progressive half would look like Detroit and the conservative half would be thriving.  The progressives would be begging at the door of the conservative half for help.

We are being led by politicians who have no integrity and spend their days believing that if they tell their lies loud enough and long enough that people will believe them.  Sadly, many people actually do believe them.  These politicians make me think of the prophet Isaiah's writing where he said, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!” (Isaiah 5:20-21)

When God says "woe" and it applies to you, it's time to sit up and take notice or prepare to be destroyed.  We are on a path of destruction and it's of our own making because we've allowed these people to lead our nation.

Million Muslim March, 2 Million Bikers to DC, Recall Elections - Where's America Headed?

Here's the Nonsense Many have given up on America, but we'll get through our troubles and be fine again real soon.  This stuff just ebbs and flows.

Here's the Horse Sense:  America is in serious trouble.  But some things are happening that could be the start of a change in America that could turn us in the right direction.

While Americans today, Sept. 11th, are remembering the loss of American lives in the terror attacks on 9/11/2001 and again last year, on 9/11/2012, some other events have happened in the past 2 days the results of which are sending an important message.

AMPAC (the American Muslim Political Action Committee) scheduled their Million Muslim March as a supposed commemoration of the attacks.  However, Christianity Today reported that the group said, "Muslim and non-Muslim alike were traumatized, but we as Muslims continue 12 years later to be victimized by being made the villains."  But the event was so poorly received by Americans that the name of the event was changed to the Million American March Against Fear.  However, America never forgot the original name and it continued to be known as the Million Muslim March.

The 2 Million Bikers to DC event was scheduled in response to and as a countermeasure to the Muslim event.  The biker event requested a permit for their event, but DC turned it down, even though the Muslim event had no problem attaining one.  However, the bikers decided to show up anyway knowing that it is not illegal to ride a motorcycle through the nation's capital. (Update:  It was reported that DC finally gave in and issued a permit for the bikers just before they entered the city.  Problem was that then no one knew where to go so they ended up riding around the city for the day.)

So, how'd it all turn out?  A definite message was sent and here are the results:

The Million Muslim March had a total attendance of 21.  Even though the liberal Huffington Post reported early this morning that there would probably only be hundreds of people attending, the fact is that only 21 people showed up for the actual event.  Yes, you read it right, only 21 people!

The bikers, on the other hand, are still being counted as of this writing, but reports are saying that as of 1:00PM one million had been counted.

Neither group may have hit their goal, but the message is loud and clear.  Based just on the 1:00PM count of bikers, 47,619 bikers showed up for each person who showed up at the Muslim event.  The message is that patriotism is alive and well in America and the average American is not going to give up who we are easily or without standing up.

That same message came through yesterday when Colorado, the formerly red and now turned blue state, recalled two state legislators for the first time in state history.  The hardline push by Democrats who have successfully taken over the both houses and the governor's office in the state has backfired and two of the legislators were recalled in a grassroots uprising and battle.  The recall effort was outspent by up to 20 to 1.  The message was loud and clear:  the citizens aren't going to take the medicine of the progressive elite.  In this case the turning point was new gun laws in Colorado that got a negative reaction from citizens of Republican, Democrat, and Independent persuasions.  Even NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg had poured money into the effort to save the legislators and it was unsuccessful.  As one report put it, a plumber who spray painted signs in his garage just beat a billionaire's efforts in a recall election.

The message is clear across America.  Americans are fed up.  It's time to take the message of the 2010 midterm elections and amplify it to hundreds of times the volume of 2010 and let the politicians know in the upcoming 2014 elections that we want America back.  They work for the people and not the other way around.

The audacity of politicians can no longer be allowed by the voters.  People like Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner who recently helped the White House craft their "attack Syria" message to try to win over Republicans need to be replaced.  Each and every politician, regardless of which party they are in, must be held accountable and replaced if they are not representing America's best interest and doing the will of the voters.

It's time for America to stand up.  The last two days are a good start.  Now, don't sit down, keep standing and start marching!

Coming To Your State

Here's the Nonsense:  What happens in other states will never happen where I live.

Here's the Horse Sense:  What happens elsewhere is important everywhere.  Watch and get involved as you see things happen in other parts of the country from where you live.  Things that happen in one place can and do spread to other places, even places you'd never expect for it to happen.

If you haven't been paying attention, Colorado is the petri dish for the Progressives in America.  Not too many years ago they set out to turn Colorado from a red state to a blue state and did so quite effectively.  The Democrat Progressives used Colorado as a place to see if they could turn it from red to blue.  Now that it is a blue state, they are working within the state to make it bluer than blue.  No shade of purple will be allowed!  And having taken complete control of the governor's office and both houses of the state legislature, they have been moving their policies and programs into place ever since.  Their plan is to take them to other states, like the one where you live, too.

The entire plan to turn Colorado from red to blue, or right to left, was detailed for all to see.  The plan was laid out in a book called The Blueprint The plan they used was outlined in detail in the book and was also covered in an excellent article called The Colorado Model by Fred Barnes in The Weekly Standard in 2008.

Recently a recall effort began for two of the Democrat legislators who have pushed through legislation that has not been received well by the public in Colorado.  Primarily, their stand on gun laws is the driving force and, as this is being written, the voting for a recall election is under way.  What is going to make it tough to succeed is the fact that the Progressives are being bankrolled by interests outside of Colorado.  Such people as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (now sarcastically known by conservatives as "Colorado's Mayor") have poured lots of money into Colorado to keep these legislators from being recalled.  The last I heard those wanting the recall are being outspent by about 6 to 1.  The Democrats have even gotten Bill Clinton to do a robo-call for them that is saturating the community telling people to stand against a recall.  Between money and what's happening in the voting process, there is a good chance the Progressives will win again.

Now you may think, "That would never happen in my state."  Or, "Those people in Colorado deserve what they get for allowing this to happen."  Or even, "This is all overreaction to a situation where people were elected legally through Colorado's Constitution."  The fact is that it's far more than that.  What is happening in Colorado is headed your way.  Many think states like Texas are too strong and will never fall to this stuff, but the Democrat Progressives have made it clear that Texas is on their radar and they intend to take it down and turn it into a red state, too, along with many others.  I have family and friends there who are concerned at what is currently happening in Texas.  WIth Rick Perry having announced he's not going to run for governor again, they worry about who will replace him.  Things are not as strong in Texas as you may think.  And, if they are concerned, you should be, too, regardless of where you live.

One of the changes in Colorado that is affecting this effort at a recall is a change in voting laws.  Under the laws pushed through once the Democrats took over, it is now amazingly easy to impact election results in that state.  For example, the two legislators who are up for recall are having their districts vote on the issue right now.  However, the requirements to vote are very loose.  You have to be 18 years old, a U. S. citizen, and have to have lived in Colorado for 22 days.  Oh, and don't let me forget to mention that if you don't live in the district where you want to vote, you just have to give an address within the district that you "intend" to move to and they will let you vote.  (Update:  Jon Caldara of the Independence Institute think tank stated these were the guidelines on the Peter Boyles Radio Show on KNUS in Denver.  He said he'd go to El Paso County and vote.  When he showed up at the county clerk's office he was given a ballot, wrote "void" on it and turned it in.  Now the Democrats are pushing to have him prosecuted for a felony as can be seen here.)

Did you get that?  You don't have to live there, just give an address you plan to move to and they'll let you vote!  So, as a candidate, it doesn't matter whether you get the people in the district to vote for you.  What matters is how many people you can get to come to the district and give an address within that district to which they plan to move.

This is the kind of thing you will see more and more across the country as the Progressives gain control.  They want to be able to control the outcome of elections, not have elections be a true representation of the people.  This is what you can look forward to across America as our nation falls further and further from its foundation.  Only we, the people, can change that.

FINAL UPDATE: What looked like a small chance for a recall effort win has turned into a success sending a message nationwide to legislators.  Colorado voters, in spite of the success of having had their state turned blue, have successfully recalled these two state legislators.  This tells politicians nationwide that it's not always about party politics and shows a sign of hope for Americans to retake control of their government.  And note that the typical election tampering efforts were being used in this recall election, as shown in an article you can read here.  This entire event shows that Americans can take their government back.  While Colorado is a long way from turning back to red, this is a step in the right direction.  There's a lot of work left to do and with the 2014 midterm elections coming up a big message needs to be sent at the voting booth.

Congratulations Colorado.  Let's hope and pray that this is only the beginning.

If You Think The Problem Is Obama, You've Missed The Point

Here's the Nonsense:  America was doing well until we elected this president.  If we can just get past this presidency we'll be able to fix things and get back on track.

Here's the Horse Sense:  America's problems are far bigger than President Obama.  Those who think it's about him have entirely missed the point.  We'd be in the same situation even if he weren't the president today.

Many people on the right have thought that the problems America faces are the result of the election of President Obama in 2008.  They see his policies, actions, plans, and deceptions all as the reason we're in the mess we're in.  They may acknowledge on some superficial level that there are people behind the president and throughout our government that are also a problem, but they always fall back on blaming this entire mess on the president.  I disagree.  This whole mess is much bigger than one man.

Many talk of the incompetence of the president.  Or they talk of the plans he is implementing as being based on poor understanding of America.  Or they may have other things about the president they attribute these things to, but no matter what it is, they are missing the point.  This is not about just surviving his presidency so we can get back to America being America again.  Whether we like it or not, America has changed under Obama, but it's not just because of him.  This goes back decades to a much bigger plan that has been slowly moving forward in our society and it just so happens that at this stage of the plan, Obama is the person who is the figurehead for those changes.

Thomas Sowell once wrote a column called Political Word Games about the lies that Obama tells.  In it he talked about what a slick liar the president really is.  He made the point that people like Richard Nixon are obvious when they lie, but Obama is really slick at it.  So slick, in fact, that unless you are knowledgeable about what he is talking about you won't know if he's lying.  He said that Obama depends on the fact that most people are uneducated on the issues going on in our nation and that the dumbed-down education that people receive in our country allows the lack of knowledge that people have to play in Obama's favor.

He's right.  There is little deep thinking anymore.  There is little critical thinking anymore.  There is little ability for people to think analytically anymore.  They either ignore what's happening altogether or they allow the superficial and usually biased and inaccurate information from the media to be what allows them to draw their conclusions.

Let's go back and get a quick bit of information that will help us understand what is going on.  In my book, No Tomorrows, I defined some terms that most people think they understand, but really don't understand.  Many people think that there are just Democrats and Republicans with the Democrats being liberals and the Republicans being conservatives.  Some of these people add a third category of moderate to the list, with some of those falling into the Democrat ranks, some into the Republican ranks, and many just falling into the Independent category.  That is old school thinking and if you fall into it I will tell you that you're years out of date.  That thinking is so far removed from what is going on in America that you might as well be talking a foreign language.

The Republican Party is a fractured mix of belief systems and viewpoints among their members.  A discussion of them deserves an entirely separate writing, so for now we'll just focus on the party currently in power, the Democrats, which is made up of liberals and progressives.

Here's what I wrote in No Tomorrows about liberals and progressives:

Liberalism has changed dramatically over the years.
What was once a term that embraced many of the
core principles of some of America’s founders such
as Thomas Jefferson became virtually the opposite
during the twentieth century. Early in the last
century the term liberalism became associated with
the idea of a government that is part capitalist and
part socialist.

It now stands for group rights rather than individual
rights and responsibilities (i.e., labor unions,
affirmative action, and similar organizations and
concepts). Liberals believe in larger government
funded by higher taxes to expand government
programs and government oversight into most
every area of life. They believe in bypassing the
legislative process by using the judiciary. The
liberal view of law is to go around laws they do
not agree with, such as with immigration. Liberals
believe in the redistribution of wealth by high taxes
on the wealthy. They are open only to viewpoints
like their own which is seen by their disrespect for
free speech rights of people of opposing viewpoints.
Many people are used to Democrats being thought
of as liberal, and many still refer to them as such.
However, in recent decades, the Progressives have
successfully taken over the Democrat party. Some
Democrats have begun to feel left out as they still
cling to the old liberal viewpoints, and they struggle
with the changes within their own party as the
Progressives have moved in.

It wasn’t too many years ago that you could vote
the liberal agenda and plausibly convince yourself
that you were just calling for a change in fiscal
philosophies. Today, you don’t have that luxury.
The Democrat party as been co-opted by the
Progressives and their platform is no longer just a
liberal agenda.

But that isn't enough of an understanding.  We also have to understand the Progressives and Progressivism.  Here's what I wrote about that:

Progressivism and the ideas associated with it date
back to around the late nineteenth century. The idea
of progress came of age when people saw how so
many inventions freed their lives from the limitations
humanity had faced from nature. Inventions such
as the telephone and telegraph changed long
distance communication, trains and automobiles
changed transportation, and electricity brought
light and other modern conveniences. As these
changes improved the quality of people’s personal
and family lives through science, progressives
began to believe similarly that politics might yield
success in improving the society’s economic and
social situations. Progressives thought a group of
intellectuals might be able to come up with the best
solutions for society’s problems.

That was the thought pattern among progressives
in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
They believed that most of the problems in society
were due to the injustice of capitalism, primarily
economic disparity. They saw that some people
lived in poor circumstances while others were quite
wealthy and they felt inequality had occurred due
to the booming economic success that was the
result of the industrial revolution. They judged this
disparity unfair because the industrial revolution
had brought poverty on some due to innovations
and inventions that had (and have) caused some
businesses and occupations to become obsolete.
They also believed the industrial revolution had
brought about greed that had led to the problems
that many people faced, and that only government
intervention could rectify the imbalance.

Progressives defined the wealthy as a greedy class
that lavished a leisure lifestyle on itself, and they
started referring to them as the conservative class.
One of the first to use the term conservative was
Thorstein Veblen in his 1899 book Theory of the
Leisure Class. In 1913 Charles Beard published
United States, which was a Marxist view of history
that attacked the success of capitalism and put
forth a picture of America’s founders as greedy
white men who had created an America to feed their
personal greed.

Progressives became known for economic, moral,
political, and social changes that were supposed
to fix the problems of humanity. Eventually their
scope of ideas became so broad that it called for a
complete transformation of government in America.
They did not want what the founders of America had
put forth in the Declaration of Independence, the
Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, the core belief
that the job of government was to protect the liberty
of the individual. Instead, they wanted it changed
so that it became a government that would handle
any disparity in society, from economic to social.
The government, in their view, would be involved in
whatever the immediate circumstances needed to
be rectified.

The intellectual progressive elite believed they were a
select few who were far more qualified to decide what
was best for Americans than the citizens themselves
were. Unlike socialism, which was a movement of
so-called common people, progressivism, though it
does place the right of the government above the
right of the individual, was a movement of elitists
who saw themselves as intellectuals. Progressives
believe in the principles of Marx, although they often
call Marxism by other names and they lean heavily
on the idea that they represent democracy. They
believed they knew better than ordinary citizens
what was best for them.

They also started referring to the Constitution
as a “living” document that would evolve as the
circumstances dictated. There were no absolutes
in their view, but rather, the needs of the times
would dictate what the Constitution should deem
correct. Essentially, progressivism was the idea
that situation ethics should become the law of the

The goal of progressivism is larger control by the state
and increased size of government. It moves toward
that goal through a process that evolves the system
to the progressives’ planned end. The progressive
moves into key positions and institutions in society
and slowly takes them over to change them. The
takeover includes churches, media, schools, labor
unions, and government.

A few progressive leaders in American society have
included such people as President Woodrow Wilson,
President Theodore Roosevelt, President Franklin
Roosevelt, Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis,
Democrat presidential nominee William Jennings
Bryan, Andrew Carnegie, John Dewey, NAACP cofounder
W.E.B. Du Bois, Henry Ford, Margaret
Sanger, John D. Rockefeller Jr., Upton Sinclair,
and more recently, President Lyndon Johnson,
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and President
Barack Obama.

I then wrote that the number of people pushing the Progressive agenda is not small and listed a link to the Congressional Progressive Caucus's website to show a list of them.  Since that time I also wrote a post that gave additional insight and an updated link to the list (Click here to read that post.).

The whole point is that we can't just think the problems we face are about one man who, when his term in office is over, will go away and our problems will be far less after he is gone.  I believe that today we face the BIGGEST problem America has ever faced.  The future of our nation depends on how we handle it.  If we think we'll just get through this presidency and things will be better so that we can turn things around easily, then we've got another think coming.  This problem is not about enduring the time this, or any other single person, is in office.  This is about an infiltration into our government AND society that has done so much damage after decades and decades of influence and undermining of our values that it has become common for people to unthinkingly accept many of their concepts and beliefs because we've been dumbed-down into believing this stuff.  We are self-destructing and to fix this will be a long hard road that, even if we were to start today, will take longer than the remainder of my lifetime.  Maybe those in the youngest generation alive today could see the turnaround if we started immediately with a wholesale rejection of what has overtaken us, but even that might be a bit too optimistic a timetable with so much work that needs to be done.

No, the problem isn't Obama and it's not about getting past his presidency.  When Mitt Romney ran against him I supported Mitt in the end because he was the only other candidate who had a chance to win.  Given that, I felt he was a better choice than Obama, but certainly not the answer to fix our nation.  The analogy I used over and over again was that we're in a ship in the middle of the ocean that is taking on water and in the middle of a terrible storm.  Obama wants to take us further out into the storm and ignore the water flooding in.  While Mitt Romney couldn't get us to a safe haven, he would at least have turned our ship towards shore and started bailing out the water we were taking on while trying to plug some of the leaks in the ship.

Whether Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton had been elected in 2008, we'd still be facing similar problems.  And if John McCain had won in that election it wouldn't be a lot different either.  These people are all either Progressives or progressive-leaning in their views and they would take us down a similar path to the one we are now on.

We're still headed into the storm and we're taking on more water every minute.  Obama may be the captain of the ship, but even if he weren't, we'd still be headed out further into the storm with no leadership that is trying to turn the ship towards shore, stop the leaks, or bail out the incoming water.  The few we do have in Congress who are trying to help are so outnumbered that the work they are doing is hopeless if American citizens don't accept our responsibility and start helping.  Saving our nation is not about the end of Barack Obama's presidential term.  It's about living virtuous lives, teaching our children the proper values, and demanding our nation abide by its own legal foundation, the Constitution.
