The Horse Sense Blog compares the nonsense in today's news with good ol' fashioned horse sense

“…I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve.… It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.” - Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775

"The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it." - George Orwell

Fiscal Irresponsibility: The Government Way Of Doing Things

Here's the Nonsense:  The government does a good job of handling our tax dollars.  When the rare situation occurs where they make a mistake handling our money, we shouldn't get so upset.  It's doesn't add up to all that much anyway.

Here's the Horse Sense:  When you hire someone to handle your finances you expect the job to be done right.  We've hired our elected politicians to do just that and they, along with the people they've put in place to handle these things, are running us into the ground.

Anyone who is paying the least bit of attention to the progressives running our government knows that they believe that they can do things better than we can.  They believe that government is better at doing things than the private sector or private citizens.  That's the theme that will underlie changes to Obamacare that they will push through to make it a single-payer system. But their incompetence will not only cost us billions in their inferior health insurance system, their poor operational management will add to our financial destruction.

They will try to get the public to accept the idea that they can do things better than the private sector.  They are going to try to make us believe that the problems they are having with Obamacare are because it's someone else's fault.  In this case I'm sure they will try to blame insurers.  So, they will ultimately tell us, we must get rid of those evil insurance companies and let the government handle things.  That way, they'll say to us, we can have a good and effective system to care for the healthcare costs of Americans.
Really?  Do we really think that the insurers, who've been handling healthcare claims for generations don't have a better idea how to handle things than a bunch of academics who have never worked a real day in their lives?  The private sector, in this case insurers, have a vested interest in doing the job well.  If they don't, they go out of business.  The government doesn't have to do the job well because if they don't, they just raise taxes to cover their mistakes.

Do we really want to let this incompetent bunch of fools take over that much of our lives?  Another bit of information has just come out telling us about government waste.  And if you haven't had your news-induced blood pressure increase recently, hold on because I'm going to give it to you.

Breitbart is reporting that in 2013, $65.3 billion in erroneous payments made by government were made by the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).  That's almost 2/3 of all erroneous payments made by the U. S. government that year.  Those are the same folks handling Obamacare.  Doesn't that make you feel good?  They are making erroneous payments at a rate of 3.53%.  That's absolutely irresponsible!

Now, before any of you say, "It's only 3.53%!  What's the big deal?"  My question is who handles your finances?  Would you allow that kind of error for someone to make if they were paying your bills?  Of course not!

And with the enormous and ridiculous amounts of money the government spends to run programs, all the while acting like they're better than anyone else could be at it, why is it acceptable to have that kind of error rate?  Yet these are the same people who now control our healthcare.  At least right now insurers are handling much of the financial end of things which will mean that at least their part of the equation will be handled with more accuracy and, dare I say, integrity.

But if erroneous payments aren't enough, I'll share one more little tidbit to keep that steam coming out of your ears.

Did you know that one of the hidden gems in Obamacare is a clause that has them take the profits the government makes on student loans and blend them with Obamacare to make the healthcare fiasco look better?

Daily Caller is reporting in an interview with Neal McCluskey of Cato that student loans were changed as part of Obamacare, "So that the profit they were supposedly making from the student loans could then be plugged into how much money would come from Obamacare, so it didn't look like it cost as much."

So we're going to let them cook the books?  This is the kind of stuff that gets people, companies, and governments into deep, deep trouble.  Try doing that in your personal finances and see how far it will get you.

But when you consider how corrupt our government has become this really is no surprise.  Both Breitbart and WND are reporting on Judicial Watch's list of the most corrupt in Washington for 2013 and, sadly, there are not just members of one party, but both in it.  The top ones include elected officials and appointed officials and are listed below in no particular order:

President Barack Obama (D)
Attorney General Eric Holder (D)
CIA Director John Brennan (D)
House Speaker John Boehner (R)
Senator Saxby Chambliss (R)
former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D)
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D)
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius (D)
former DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano (D)
former IRS Commission Steve T. Miller (D)
former IRS official Lois Lerner (D)

These, many of the top leaders of our nation, are listed in a list of most corrupt.  Of those who are elected, 6 are Democrats and 2 Republicans.  That not only says a lot about them but it also says a lot about the job we've done as citizens in electing who represents us.

This inept bunch of morons and criminals we have elected and have allowed to take over our country are running it into the ground.  They are doing it on the backs of the taxpayers.  It's time for America to wake up and make changes.  Any way you cut it, the irresponsible way that our nation is being run must be stopped.

It's 2014.  Later this year there will be mid-term elections.  That's when citizens get the chance to make changes in Congress.  Since we have very few in Congress who are doing their job, it's time for a house cleaning.

It's only months away.  What are you doing to make sure good people are elected?  It's up to us, the citizens.  America is supposed to be a government of, by and for the people.  It is currently not running that way and if we do not bring it back into the citizens' control soon, there will be no chance to do so in the future.
