The Horse Sense Blog compares the nonsense in today's news with good ol' fashioned horse sense

“…I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve.… It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.” - Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775

"The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it." - George Orwell

Trump Was Wrong And Why It Doesn't Matter

Here's the Nonsense:  The recording of Trump from 11 years ago is reason to reconsider supporting him.

Here's the Horse Sense:  This election is about 2 flawed humans running for president.  The issue is whether you will accept someone who makes mistakes or someone who engages in outright criminal activity.

As most everybody knows by now, an audio recording of Donald Trump speaking to Billy Bush 11 years ago was released a few days ago.  What Trump says on the recording was disgusting and everyone, including Donald himself, agrees it was wrong.  But no matter what the Democrats and GOPe NeverTrumpers say, this issue doesn't matter.  Will it impact the election?  It's possible, but most likely it won't.

It doesn't matter if Dr. James Dobson's report that Donald Trump has recently become a born again Christian is accurate.  Trump's enemies won't allow him time to learn, grow and change.  They will always hold him to any standard that will make Trump look bad.  And if Trump truly did become a Christian it's not an election issue.  America has had few, if any Christian presidents, but that's a topic for another day.  The bottom line on this point is that even if Trump has changed recently, his detractors will always hold anything he ever did wrong against him.

Am I defending what the recordings have Trump saying 11 years ago?  Absolutely not.  In fact, I am pretty sure that few people, especially men, are as disgusted as I am by that kind of talk.  I have no time for it and think it is never acceptable.

But all this does is open the doors for his detractors to jump back on the anti-Trump bandwagon.

Do we really care that people like Paul Ryan are now standing against Trump again?  Is this a surprise?  It shouldn't be.  Paul Ryan is a liar and phony who pretends to be better than Trump yet, like his GOPe allies, has proven himself to be no better than anything they accuse Trump of.  At least Trump is admitting he was wrong and has apologized.  And his wife, Melania, has acknowledged what he said was terrible but has also said she accepts his apology.

The fact is that the GOPe are the ones who have supported Obama's agenda over and over again against the will of the American people.  They are the ones who have lied to voters over and over again about how they'll stand up for the mandate they've been given in election after election and then back down.  They have supported open borders, sending jobs and manufacturing to foreign countries, outrageous debt and spending, the destruction of our healthcare system with Obamacare, and on and on.

Their stand against Trump because of this over a decade old mistake means they believe the following things are not as bad as Trump's disgusting statement in that old recording:

  • Turning over the Supreme Court to the control of liberal justices.
  • The destruction of our healthcare system with Obamacare.
  • Over $20 trillion in national debt.
  • Over $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities.
  • Illegal immigration
  • ISIS
  • Bad trade agreements that send jobs and businesses to foreign countries.
  • Globalism
  • Riots in our streets.
  • Unsafe communities across the nation.
  • An education system that indoctrinates our children in progressive political correctness and is controlled by the government instead of local communities.
  • And on and on and on....

Voters are not rejecting Trump for what has happened. Instead, they accept that he, like all of us, is a flawed human being but realize that his flaws are far less important than the danger Hillary Clinton is to our nation's future.

Robert and Rebekah Mercer, major donors supporting Trump are standing behind him.

Religious leaders are standing behind Trump.  And some, such as Franklin Graham, are pointing out what's really important in this election.

Voters are standing behind Trump.

Only the GOPe who have never really supported him are turning against him, but anyone with the IQ of a small soap dish has known all along that the GOPe have wanted Hillary to win from the beginning.  The threat of them losing their power and the globalist agenda they stand for being thrown out by Trump is too much for them to take.  So, they side with Hillary so they can try to retain their power and the huge financial windfall they get from pursuing globalism.

If you really want to face the reason for the hypocrisy of those rejecting Trump over this, then you have to look in your Bible and you'll see a description that fits America today.  In Romans chapter 1 it says that people are "filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same but also give hearty approval to those who practice them."

We should not be surprised that our politicians are as dishonest and corrupt as they are.  They are simply representative of most people in our society.  And after all, it's society that elects them to and keeps them in office.  That will not change unless the voters themselves change their moral compass and listen to our founders warnings that our government can only survive if we are a religious and moral people.

And for those who think you can have morality without faith, you're wrong.  Faith gives us an ultimate accountability for our thoughts and actions.  Through faith we understand that we will all be accountable for every action and deed and face eternal consequences for them.  That accountability is what drives people to live moral lives, even in the face of persecution in this life.

This election is about whether America will:

a.)  Go back to being the beacon of freedom to it's citizens and the world,

b.)  Whether America will continue down the current path it's on where freedoms are being taken away and the future holds darkness and enslavement for its citizens.

Trump is an imperfect human but our choice is between Trump's imperfection and Hillary's criminality.  It's that simple.
